Il est situé au 398 rue Beauchef et est accessible par la station de métro Parque O'Higgins, ligne 2, avenue Matta et avenue Blanco Encalada.
Le parc devient chaque année le centre d'activité des fêtes nationales chiliennes. Dans le secteur connu sous le nom d'El Pueblito, des dizaines de fondas sont installées, clôtures de la cuisine nationale typique avec des endroits pour danser, tels que la cueca. Tous les 19 septembre, à l'Esplanade du parc (connue sous le nom de La Ellipse), le défilé militaire se déroule devant les plus hauts responsables du gouvernement et des centaines de milliers de spectateurs. L'Université Bernardo O'Higgins est située à l'est.
