The Amazonian Museum of Ufam is located in the historic center of Manaus, and has in its vicinity the Institute of Education of Amazonas (IEA), the Amazonian Academy of Letters, and the Teatro Amazonas, among other postcards of the capital of Amazonas.

The Amazonian Museum of Ufam has a Museology Division that is subdivided into Museology and Museography, Technical Reserve and Conservation and Restoration. Each, through a set of specific techniques, performs fundamental activities for the maintenance and exhibition of pieces, objects and artifacts from the collections of the Collection, the so-called museum documentation.

The actions of the Museology Division of the Amazonian Museum guarantee the conservation of the public patrimony and allow the contact of society with knowledge, culture and history.

Museology / Museography is a division responsible for the registration, identification and classification of objects in the collection; for research, study and selection of collections; for planning and organizing exhibitions and events and for assisting researchers.

The sector organizes the museological documentation following an identification process: a previous form is filled out with basic information about a piece, an inventory record is subsequently made, a study on the object is then made, photographic records are made, and finally, photographic records are made. , a cataloging and classification form is completed.

Conservation and Restoration

The Conservation and Restoration sector aims to clean, preserve and restore pieces and artifacts from the Amazon Museum's collection, such as ceramics, wood and papers, as well as the treatment of glass negatives and photographic negatives. It has an iconographic file with images from the UFAM / Administrativas, Silvino Santos and Márcio Souza collections (SESC / TESC).

The Technical Reserve is a space in the Division where objects and artifacts from the material culture collections of the Amazonian Museum are stored, a place where they receive care such as the daily reading of relative humidity and temperature control and the periodic conservation and hygiene of the collection.

Currently, the Museum has a technical reserve made up of approximately 4,830 registered and stored objects, most of which are related to ethnic groups in the Amazon, of daily and ritual use. Most of these objects are of organic origin, such as vegetable fibers, feathers, wood, resins, among others.
