The Plaza de Armas is also called Parque Sucre. It is the main square of the city with a great monument to Marshal Antonio José de Sucre who was the leader of the liberation army that fought in Ayacucho.
The city of Ayacucho, capital of the Ayacucho department, is one of the most notable colonial urban complexes on the continent. Known as ´´Peruvian Seville´´ for its Holy Week festivities and ´´City of churches´´ for its many temples and beautiful European-style houses.
