Questo paesaggio è stato generato nel periodo quaternario, circa 25 milioni di anni fa. La particolarità di questo campo dunare è che è costituito da vecchie dune "sospese" su terrazze marine separate da una rupe rocciosa.
Nel loro aspetto geologico sono considerati un sito unico perché alla loro formazione hanno partecipato fattori climatici, petrografici, idrografici, topografici, oceanici e fitogeografici, oggi irriproducibili.
Si trova all'estremità meridionale di Concón a Viña del Mar.

Dal Terminal San Borja a Santiago situato a San Borja Nº 235, nella metropolitana della stazione centrale. Oltre al capolinea degli autobus della stazione centrale situato in Alameda Nº 3850, Metro Universidad de Santiago.

Una delle opzioni per arrivare a Viña del Mar è attraverso la Strada 68, si entra a Valparaíso e si seguono le indicazioni corrette per arrivare a Viña. L'autostrada Viña - Valparaíso è lunga 5,5 km e inizia a Caleta Abarca.
C'è anche un percorso diretto a Viña del Mar dalla Route 68 verso Variante Agua Santa o Route 66, per percorrere un bellissimo sentiero con vista sulla baia di Valparaíso e sulle spiagge di Viña del Mar.
Le dune si distinguono per le loro imponenti aree sabbiose di grande valore scientifico, educativo, culturale e sportivo.
Un santuario naturale che è stato creato milioni di anni fa, un sito unico che ci racconta il passato della costa cilena.
Tale è l'importanza del campo di dune di Concón che il 5 agosto 1993 è stato dichiarato Santuario Naturale.
