Affacciato sul fiume Lucefece, considerato magico e sacro sin dai tempi dei pagani, la chiesa di Santiago risale agli ultimi anni del tredicesimo secolo. Attorno ad esso, lungo il corso del fiume, c'erano numerosi mulini ad acqua che utilizzavano la forza trainante dell'acqua. Sarebbero stati questi mulini a dare il nome al villaggio.
