Rio Negro Palace was the seat of the Government and Official Residence of the governor. Its original name was Palacete Scholz, built by the German Waldemar Scholz, considered "Barão da Borracha". Its name was changed to Palácio Rio Negro in 1918 after the purchase was authorized by the governor of Amazonas, Pedro de Alcântara Bacellar.

Built in the early twentieth century, in an eclectic style, to be the private residence of the rubber trader, the German Waldemar Scholz, who, due to the drop in the price of rubber from 1912 and after the first world war, had to mortgage Colonel Luiz da Silva Gomes, for 400 contos de réis, this rubber tapper and trader, in a first phase leased the Palace for the governor's residence. And later, it was acquired by the government in 1917, (purchase authorized by law No. 892 of 28 July 1917), to become the seat of the Executive Branch and residence of the governor, permanent as a dispatch palace until April 1995.

In 1997, the State Government, due to its architectural beauty and historical value, transformed it into the Rio Negro Palace Cultural Center, with spaces open to classical and instrumental music recitals, exhibitions, book launches, dance and theater, in addition to other cultural activities.

Counting with the specialized consultancy of technicians from the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center (CBBB), the Department of Culture designed the new format of the Rio Negro Palace, which is air conditioned and suitable for all types of exhibitions.

From November 2000, the Palace started to serve as a pole for other cultural spaces, adding to it the Museum-Library of Image and Sound of Amazonas / MISM, the Numismatics Museum Bernardo Ramos, the Pinacoteca do Estado, the Cine - Guarany Theater and the Amazonas Cultural Reference Space / ERCAM, all functioning regularly and in an integrated manner.

Among the various exhibitions that took place at the CCPRN, the following stand out:

The furniture of the Centro Cultural Palácio Rio Negro originally belonged to the Government Palace, notably:
