A recognition to the many English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Dutch sailors who entered these coasts between 1578 and 1700. From characters such as Francis Drake and his ship “Golden Hind” to the buccaneer Bartolomé Sharp in the “Santísima Trinidad”, as well as the legend of the Treasure of Guayacán, give an account of the passage of these navigators through the bay of La Herradura.
The place was formerly used to strategically monitor the arrival of pirate ships.

By plane
You must travel to La Florida de La Serena airport and then take locomotion to Coquimbo. Alternatives include taxis and public transportation.
By car
From the north or south you must travel along Route 5 in the direction of Coquimbo or La Serena. From Copiapó it is 344 km. and from Iquique 1,397 km. To the south, from Santiago there are 462 km. and from Los Vilos 231 km.
By bus
There are continuous frequencies from La Serena and neighboring resorts to Coquimbo. From Santiago there are departures every day. Check with the respective terminal.
Boat
Access by boat is limited to international cruise ships that arrive at the port of Coquimbo.
Legend has it that in the La Herradura sector the English corsair Francis Drake would have buried an important treasure somewhere in Coquimbo. That history, added to the visits of other corsairs to the region during the colony, has generated a tourist image "of pirates" to the area.
