De planning van dit theater begon 1 mei 1916. Na een aantal vergaderingen, vormde een commissie naar het theater te bouwen, met verschillende persoonlijkheden gekoppeld aan Estremoz, met inbegrip van Dr. Marques Crespo, Dr. José Rosado da Fonseca, de De heer Carlos Frederico Luna en de heer José Maria Reynolds Grace Zagalo.
Het land van inplanting van deze eigenschap werd geschonken door de heer João Reynolds. Het was gelegen in een straat lay-out (nu Avenida 25 de Abril) dat was "overwonnen" de zeventiende eeuwse muur een paar jaar geleden, en het was een gebied waar de stad Estremoz dan geëxpandeerd relatief snel.
En als de grond was toen voerde de plattegrond door Ernesto Maia. De werken op hun beurt te wijten aan Manuel da Silva hield het contract voor timmerwerk, ad panelen, enz. De prachtige gips sierlijsten, zijn het werk van Antonio Esteves Martins en decoratieve schilderijen, afkomstig uit de handen van een schilder uit Portalegre, Welcome Avondmaal. De eerste elektrische verlichting was het werk van José Luís Vergas da Rocha.
De inhuldiging vond plaats op 22 juli 1922, met de aanwezigheid van gerenommeerde Portugese kunstenaar, Amelia Rey Colaço. Er waren 816 aandeelhouders. Later nam de gemeente dit juweel van het Portugese theater over.

Het is de naam van de Alentejo toegewezen "Bernardim Ribeiro," ter ere van deze zestiende-eeuwse dichter die zo goed schreef over hun liefdes met haar neef AONIE verondersteld estremocense Joana Tavares Zagalo die zijn overleden in het klooster van de Arme Clarissen Estremoz .
